With each issue of Well-Being that is published, the staff and I enjoy learning more about the topics we cover, and we’re pleased to be able to share that information with our readers. Whether we’re covering current health issues, nutrition facts, new trends in fitness, family concerns or green solutions, we hope the information in our pages will help you make healthier choices. And when you think about it, making good choices is a simple, yet monumental factor that affects every aspect of our lives.

Intellectually, most of us know, or have a good idea, about what we should do when it comes to nutrition, exercise, and leading a healthy lifestyle. Where the trouble comes in is actually doing what we know is best for us. The key to living life to the fullest is using the knowledge we already possess to make the right choices. It’s really a matter of setting priorities and finding ways to change the habits that keep us from being the best we can be.

We are all creatures of habit. It can be hard to break the tendency to take the course of least resistance. We may choose to go through the drive-thru line and pick up fast food instead of serving fresh foods at home. We may collapse on the sofa after work instead of taking a walk. Or we may put off losing those extra pounds we’ve put on, until there are more than just a few of them. After all we’re only hurting ourselves when we make the wrong choices. Right? Not so fast. When we think about it, it is not just ourselves we are shortchanging, we are also letting down our spouses who want to keep us around for a long time, our kids who look to us to show them the way, our employers who expect us to give our best and our communities, that suffer when we don’t have the energy to give of our time and talents.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the rush of our busy days, it’s easy to forget what is most important…and that is caring for ourselves and our families. It is caring enough to try to be the best we can be. So let’s look at our list of things to do, and places to be and make sure that in all the speeding around, we don’t forget to use the knowledge we have and make the choices that will lead us to healthier, more full-filled, lives.
