Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi honored Camden Elementary School with a celebratory event March 30, 2015, at the company’s main campus in Flowood. The school, located in Madison County, had the highest participation in the “Get Ready to Run” school program with 31 percent of eligible students participating at the Mississippi Blues Marathon Kids’ One-Mile Fun Run on January 10, 2015. Camden Elementary received $2,000 for its efforts that will support enhancements to its physical education program.

“We applaud the Camden Elementary School faculty, staff and students for their participation in the Get Ready to Run program,” said Sheila Grogan, Vice President, Community and Public Relations, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. “The students were active and engaged in the lessons and demonstrated their commitment to living a healthy lifestyle by taking part in the program and by their participation on race day.”

The “Get Ready to Run” school program was available to 14,000 students in Central Mississippi beginning in the fall of 2014, and prepared students for the Mississippi Blues Marathon Kids’ One-Mile Fun Run. Nearly 800 students took part on race day. Students learned about proper running form, nutrition, healthy goal setting and more, during regularly scheduled P.E. classes last fall. Participating schools competed to earn awards in support of their P.E. programs.
