JACKSON, Miss. – For many wheelchair users, getting out and about is a major problem. The solution? A transportation service which provides vans outfitted for wheelchair users. American Medical Response (AMR) is one of those companies. While it is best known for ambulance service (which it provides in 20 Mississippi counties), AMR also offers transportation in vans modified for wheelchair users.
AMR’s wheelchair vans pick up riders at their door (not at the curb) and take them all the way to their destination (for example, into the doctor’s office not just outside the front entrance). AMR’s vans run 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Transports in AMR wheelchair vans cost $55 one-way and $95 round trip. Those rates are all-inclusive if the trip begins and ends anywhere within Hinds, Madison and Rankin counties. There’s an additional fee if the trip begins or ends outside those counties. The drivers for AMR’s wheelchair vans are highly-experienced, well-trained and courteous. Each is certified in CPR and first aid; some drivers are EMTs. AMR prefers at least 24 hours’ notice for scheduling wheelchair van transports, but trips with shorter notice can sometimes be arranged.
To request AMR’s wheelchair van service, call 601-982-7911. In emergencies, always dial 911.
