JACKSON, Miss. – After acquiring the six Courthouse fitness centers in central Mississippi in December of 2014, University of Mississippi Medical Center is now assessing each location and determining the scope of work required to meet the needs of the wellness community. The acquisition includes Courthouse fitness centers in Brandon, Byram, Flowood and north Jackson as well as one in Madison and one in downtown Jackson.

According to Jonathan Wilson, UMMC chief administrative officer, this assessment phase will help determine the kinds of renovations and upgrades that will be planned for the existing Courthouse facilities.

“We are evaluating the services currently being provided at the Courthouse locations and gathering information on best practices around the country to see what changes we could make to better serve the community,” Wilson notes.

Wilson expects considerable interface between UMMC programs, physicians and services, and the staff and management of the Courthouse fitness facilities.

“The close integration of UMMC clinical services will allow the Courthouse locations to serve the larger mission of improving the health of Mississippians,” adds Wilson. “This is what excited us about the possibility of working with the Courthouse locations,” he adds. “Our communities deserve a clinically integrated fitness and wellness center that can address the multiple facets of improving health in our daily lives.”

UMMC is partnering with Power Wellness, a national leader in medically integrated wellness and fitness centers.

“The addition of the Courthouse locations to the UMMC family will represent a new way for our community to improve wellness,” says Wilson. “This will include top-tier fitness services coupled with clinically integrated wellness services to improve our overall health in a clean and comfortable environment unlike anything in the state.”
