Leg fracture

JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center offers a walk-in clinic, called Urgent Orthopaedic Care, for patients of all ages (10 years and older) – with no appointment and no referral required. The clinic, which is open Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm, is available at MS Sports Medicine’s Fortification Street location.

According to Mike Wilkinson, Director of Athletic Training Outreach Services, at MSMOC the clinic was created in response to a growing need for immediate orthopaedic care.

“We determined a need for a quick, walk-in type clinic for orthopaedic injuries,” says Wilkinson. “Most people did not want to wait endless hours in an emergency room only to be told to go see an orthopaedic doctor. This is a cheaper, faster, more efficient method to get your injury evaluated without waiting days for an appointment.”

“The walk-in nature of the clinic allows a patient to get immediate specialized care,” Wilkinson continues. “Because they are seen immediately, an appropriate chain of care can be implemented to help reduce pain and quicken recovery. For example, the patient can be referred to start a physical therapy program to help get them back to work or their favorite activity sooner. And, many times, if additional imaging services beyond x-rays are needed (MRI) they can be administered the same day.”

Any one with a typical orthopaedic injury, including sprains strains or possible fractures due to falls, minor accidents or athletic injuries is a good candidate for Urgent Orthopaedic Care services. Patients injured in a motor vehicle accident should go to the nearest hospital emergency room where they can be thoroughly evaluated to rule out underlying injuries.
