JACKSON, Miss. – St. Dominic’s Hospital recently was honored by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) with the award of an Education Recognition Certificate for the hospital’s diabetes self-management outpatient education program. The award signifies that the ADA believes this program offers high-quality education that is an essential component of effective diabetes treatment.
“Diabetes education and training have been proven to be key predictors of positive health outcomes for diabetics,” said Shelley Gaggini, St. Dominic’s diabetes program educator. “Patients who are willing to move toward disease acceptance and place value on being educated in disease self-management are encouraged when they learn how the basics of diabetes care can improve quality of life. As educators, our goal is not only to teach but also to provide support and encouragement for patients living with diabetes.”
