JACKSON, Miss. – Throughout the month of March, Newk’s restaurants will have available on the menu Thai Chicken Soup, which includes numerous cancer-fighting ingredients and is safe for those undergoing cancer treatment. This initiative is part of Newk’s ongoing efforts to raise funding and awareness of ovarian cancer for the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA), the world’s largest global organization dedicated to advancing ovarian cancer research.
It is with great sadness that we report that just as this issue of Well-Being was being uploaded for printing, Lori Newcomb, Co-founder of Newk’s Cares and wife to CEO and Founder of Newk’s Eatery, Chris Newcomb, lost her six-year battle with ovarian cancer. In 2014, Ms. Newcomb established Newk’s Cares, the philanthropic arm of Newk’s Eatery. It became her life’s mission to improve the success rate of early diagnosis by funding research and creating greater awareness for the symptoms of ovarian cancer. She helped many women through the process of early detection and led the charge in raising $1 million toward research for the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
The Newk’s family invites the public to visit www.NewksCares.com, where the company is paying tribute to Lori’s life and legacy.
The staff ofWell-Being sends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Newcomb, and to the countless women whose lives have been touched because of her untiring commitment.
