JACKSON, Miss. – Wells United Methodist Church has selected Extra Table as the beneficiary of the four fundraising events that are a part of WellsFest 2019. Founded 10 years go by well-known chef and restaurateur Robert St. John, Extra Table is making a difference in the lives of Mississippians by fundraising in order to stock food pantries and soup kitchens across Mississippi with wholesome nutritious food. All proceeds from this year’s WellsFest events will go to Extra Table. Each dollar raised from WellsFest will provide 2 to 2 ½ fresh, healthy meals.
“Wells United Methodist Church has been feeding souls and serving as a spiritual agent for love, care and support in the Jackson area for 93 years. Extra Table has been feeding hungry neighbors all across Mississippi for 10 years,” said St. John. “I am so pleased that Wells chose Extra Table as the beneficiary charity for WellsFest this year.”
Now in its 36th year, WellsFest is comprised of four unique events that will be held the last week in September: WellsFest Art Night on Tuesday, Sept. 24, WellsFest Golf Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25, and a 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, followed by a free, family-focused outdoor music and children’s festival. The run and festival are held at Jamie Fowler Boyll Park next to Smith-Wills Stadium on Lakeland Drive, art night at Duling Hall in Fondren, and the golf tournament at Whisper Lake Golf Club in Madison.
