By Dr. Kelly Starrett with Glen Cordoza
Becoming a Supple Leopard hit the bestseller lists in 2013 and was the talk among serious athletes and trainers. This year it was released in a revised second edition with a new user-friendly format with the aim of treating stiff and achy joints, rehabilitating and preventing injuries “without having to seek out a coach, doctor, chiropractor, physical therapist, or masseur.” The author is Dr. Kelly Starrett, the founder of MobilityWOD.com, who teaches a method to promote mobility and health.
The book is organized into four parts: Principals and Theory lays the foundation for movement technique; Categories of Movement teaches the exercise movements; Mobilization Techniques contains the tools for working on pain and mobility issues; and Mobility Prescriptions provides a guide to help the user to customize his or her own mobility program.
Even in its revised edition, Becoming a Supple Leopard is not for the casual learner. At over 450 pages with long explanations for each exercise, it reads more like a fitness trainer’s textbook. This book is for those who have already made a serious commitment to fitness and are looking to fine tune specific areas.
